Eastern Kentucky Asset Building Coalition

The Eastern Kentucky Asset Building Coalition (EKABC) is committed to enhancing the financial stability and economic independence of families throughout Eastern Kentucky. The coalition strives to better our communities through working with families to increase their knowledge of and access to free tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) which helps families claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) on their annual taxes. The coalition is also dedicated to empowering families to better understand their own finances through sessions on budgeting, credit counseling and home ownership.

In 2013, EKABC provided free tax preparation to 1,966 families in Eastern Kentucky for a total economic impact of $3,671,940.

The coalition serves Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Madison, Magoffin, Martin, McCreary, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne, Whitley, and Wolfe Counties.

EKABC is a collaboration of Bell-Whitley, Big Sandy, KCEOC, and LKLP Community Action Programs, Partners for Education with Berea College, Owsley County Action Team and Hazard Community and Technical College-Leslie County.
